Over at A Practical Wedding, a site I've been reading for a few months now, there's an interesting article about 2 married gals and their take on the word wife. It spoke to me because neither Melinda nor I are "stereotypical" lesbians. We really don't even call ourselves that. (I don't know what we call ourselves, actually. We're not into labels.) I have been wondering what to call her after we marry and what I'd like to be called. "Partner" is very dry-sounding, and "spouse" is so generic.
"Wife" is a loaded word, but it's also the best descriptor in the English language for what we'll be after we marry: a woman who is married. Just kinda makes sense.

"Houston, we have a venue!"
Wow! After seeing this place and that place, and being told crazy digits of how much it would cost to hold a reception there, we finally toured the space a coworker told us about: The Emerald City Cabaret. He runs it AND he's offered it's use to us for free! (We just pay the bar tab!) Talk about a life-saver!
So we not only have a venue, but a date as well -- November fifth. It's 8 months away but I admit, the pressure is on.
